GEO5 is a powerful software suite for solving geotechnical problems based on traditional analytical methods and Finite Element Method (FEM).


Individual programs verify a specific structure, which keeps them intuitive and easy to use. GEO5 is composed of individual programs with unified user interface, which is easy to use and does not require any special training.

GEO5 is designed to solve most geotechnical tasks, from the basic ones (verification of foundations, walls, slope stability), up to highly specialized programs (analysis of tunnels, building damage due to tunneling, rock stability). Each GEO5 program solves definite structure type, so the customer can only select those he needs.

GEO5 is a software suite, providing solution for majority of geotechnical tasks. Individual programs have the same user interface and communicate with each other, while each program verifies definite structure type.

geo5-programs-for-stability-analysisGEO5 contains several programs for analyses of soil and rock slopes, dams, newly built embankments, and check of retaining walls global stability.

The basic program for stability analysis is Slope Stability. It enables design and analysis of slope stability with circular or polygonal surface and automatic optimization of slip surface. It cooperates with all programs for analysis of Excavation Designs and Retaining Wall Designs. It enables creation of anchors, georeinforcements, surcharge and earthquake effects modeling.

The program for analysis of MSE Walls reinforced by georeinforcements is MSE Wall, which contains a large database of georeinforcements of different production firms. The program for nailed slope analysis (passive nails with shotcrete face) is called Nailed Slope.

The Rock Stability program is designated for analysis of rock slope stability for a specified type of failure, including a planar or polygonal slip surface or rock wedge.

The Anti-Slide Pile program is used for design of pile walls stabilizing slope movement or increasing safety factor of the slope.

All stability problems can also be solved by finite element method (fi,c reduction method) in the FEM program. The ground water table can be calculated in the FEM – Water Flow program, and then passed into Slope Stability or FEM programs for stability analysis.

geo5-programs-for-excavation-designGEO5 enables a complete design and analysis of vertical sheeting structure of many types. Retaining walls can be anchored, strutted or non-anchored, it is possible to compute soldier piles.

The GEO5 Sheeting Check program is used to make advanced design of anchored or strutted retaining walls (Sheet pile, Diaphragm, Pile or Soldier pile walls). It allows the user to model the real structure behavior using stages of construction, to calculate the deformation and pressures acting upon the structure, to verify the internal anchor stability or to verify steel, RC or timber cross-sections and the bearing capacity of the anchors.

The GEO5 Sheeting Design program is used to perform a quick design of non-anchored structures or a basic design of anchored structures. The program calculates the required length of the structure in soil, the internal forces on the structure and verifies cross-sections (RC, steel, timber).

Both programs support design of variety embedded retaining wall types (Sheet pile wall, Diaphragm wall, Soldier pile wall and Pile wall).

Also both programs allow analyzing overall stability using the GEO5 Slope Stability program.

Program GEO5 Shaft is designed for calculations of load and stress of circular, vertical shafts.

geo5-programs-for-walls-and-gabionsGEO5 contains multiple programs for design of retaining walls and supporting structures – mainly due to conserving simplicity and clarity of input. Each program enables analysis of the structure according to geotechnical aspects, but also verification of wall material.

Overall stability analysis of all retaining wall types can be performed directly with the Slope Stability program, foundation can be analyzed using the Spread Footing or Pile programs.

The MSE Wall program is used to analyze segmental retaining walls reinforced by georeinforcements. It contains a large database of georeinforcements of different production firms. The program for nailed slope analysis (passive nails with shotcrete face) is called Nailed Slope.

Program Abutment is designated to verify bridge abutments including wingwalls and construction stages. Additional program Earth Pressures allows to verify the earth pressure load on a general structure.

geo5-programs-for-shallow-foundationsGEO5 contains programs for design of rectangular and circular spread footings, strip foundations, and foundation slabs of a general shape. Not only the software allows to verify the bearing capacity and settlement, but also reinforcement of an RC structure.

The GEO5 Spread Footing program is used for spread and strip footing design (including spread footing with haunch bearing capacity). It enables verification of bearing capacity of a foundation on both, drained and undrained soil and rock subsoil. The program also calculates the settlement and rotation of the foundation and allows designing reinforcement for the foundation.

Program GEO5 Slab is designated for analysis of foundation mats and slabs on elastic subsoil. The program uses the Winkler-Pasternak model and is able to calculate C1 and C2 constants from deformation properties of soil – piles can be model as springs.

Internal forces and deformations of strip foundation can be calculated by program GEO5 Beam. Program allows to calculate values of C1, C2 from input soil profile.

It is also possible to verify some problems (eg. circular force) using the finite element method in the GEO5 FEMprogram using axisymetry.

geo5-programs-for-deep-fundationsGEO5 contains several programs for design and analysis of pile foundations. It is necessary to select a suitable program considering the structure type and available results of a geotechnical survey.

The Pile program is designated to verify vertical bearing capacity of a pushed and pulled pile, pile settlement and horizontal bearing capacity of a single pile. It also enables to design and verify a pile reinforcement.

The Pile CPT program is designated to verify bearing capacity and settlement of a single pile or a pile group according to results of a cone penetration test (CPT).

The Pile Group program is designated to verify pile group with rigid foundation mat, using the spring method (FEM) or analytical solution.

The Micropile program verifies tube micropiles (made from steel tube). When analyzing the bearing capacity of the micropile, the root part and cross section of the micropile are verified.

Some problems (eg. single pile) can also be solved by the finite element method in the FEM program using axisymetry.

geo5-programs-for-settlement-analysisAlthough GEO5 includes specialized programs for settlement and consolidation analysis, settlement of a structure can be analyzed in all programs for foundation analysis.

The Settlement program is designated for analysis of terrain settlement from surcharge or under constructed embankment. It also enables calculation of consolidation using analytical method (Terzhagi).

It is also possible to analyze settlement using the finite element method in the FEM program. FEM – Consolidation module then allows calculation of settlement in time.

Settlement and rotation of a shallow foundation is analyzed in the Spread Footing program. It is also possible to calculate settlement from CPT in the Spread Footing CPT program.

It is possible to calculate settlement or load-settlement curve of piles in the Pile, Pile CPT and Pile Group programs.

The Ground Loss program is designated for analysis of terrain settlement and risks of building damage above a constructed tunnel.

geo5-programs-fortunnels-and-shaftsNot only can GEO5 programs be successfully used for tunnel analysis, but it is also possible to calculate the influence of tunnel construction on surrounding buildings.

Tunnels are modeled using the finite element method in the FEM program. The FEM – Tunnel extension module also contains these functions:

  • creation of a geometrical model of the lining in a separate pre-processor
  • Use of a relaxation factor to model the 3D behavior of the body during excavation
  • Input of temperature loads
  • Consideration of soil swelling
  • Consideration of lining shrinkage

The Ground Loss program is designated for analysis of terrain settlement and risks of building damage above a constructed tunnel.

Program Shaft is designed for calculations of load and stress of circular, vertical shafts.

geo5-programs-for-stratigraphysGEO5 enables to create a digital terrain model with layers from geological field test (geodetic measurements, boreholes, SPT, CPT, DMT and other field tests), which significantly simplifies the work of the designer and improves the final prediction of the structure behavior.

The Terrain program enables to create a digital terrain model and layers of soil from inputted or imported points, edges and boreholes. In result, the program creates a comfort 3D graphic visualization of the layers. The program also enables simple definition of excavations and embankments for calculation of earth volumes.

The Terrain program can also generate data for other GEO5 programs, which is very effective mainly for 2D programs. (Slope Stability, Settlement, FEM and Beam)

geo5-programs-for-field-testsGEO5 provides analysis of structures directly from field tests data (SPT, CPT, DMT, PMT) and avoid or reduce the definition of standard soil parameters.

The main input data of geotechnical programs are soil parameters. These should be defined based on geological surveys and laboratory tests. However, GEO5 software includes many programs that enable direct import of field test results (CPT – cone penetration test, DMT – flat dilatometer test, PMT – pressuremeter test, SPT – standard penetration test).

The Pile CPT program allows to analyze bearing capacity and settlement of piles according to CPT.

The Spread Footing CPT program allows to analyze bearing capacity and settlement of spread foundation according to CPT, SPT and DMT.

Program Micropile allows to calculate the modulus of subsoil reaction according to PMT and SPT.

The Sheeting Check program enables analysis of modulus of subsoil reaction according to PMT.
